EMV's contactless specifications govern the tap-to-pay transaction over ISO/IEC 14443, with a distinct processing kernel for each network — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, and UnionPay. They define how the terminal selects the kernel, exchanges cryptograms, and enforces no-PIN tap limits.
