Calypso Networks Association

Open standard for contactless transit ticketing using ISO 14443-B, widely deployed in European public transport systems.

Calypso is an open contactless ticketing standard built on ISO/IEC 14443 Type B, created by a consortium of European transit authorities to avoid proprietary lock-in. It underpins fare systems including Paris's Navigo, Brussels, and Lisbon, and specifies a secure session protocol that completes a validation in roughly 100 milliseconds even when the card is briefly presented.
