Cryptographic Token Information Format Standard defining data model for smart card PKI objects.
PKCS#15 defines a standard data model for the PKI objects — keys, certificates, and authentication data — stored on a cryptographic token, so that different applications can interpret the same card. It grew directly out of ISO/IEC 7816-15 and lets middleware discover a card's credentials without proprietary knowledge of each issuer's layout. This interoperability is what allows a single PKCS#11 module to support cards from many vendors.
