GP SCP02 is a GlobalPlatform Secure Channel Protocol that protects communication between a card-management host and a smart card using Triple-DES for encryption and message authentication. It establishes session keys from a card's static keys to provide confidentiality and integrity during applet loading and personalisation. Because Triple-DES is now considered legacy, SCP02 has largely given way to the AES-based SCP03 in new deployments.
