GSMA

Consumer eSIM specification for remote SIM provisioning, profile download, and multi-profile management.

GSMA SGP.22 is the consumer eSIM standard for remote SIM provisioning, defining how a device downloads, installs, and switches operator profiles onto an embedded UICC without a physical card. It introduces the LPA (Local Profile Assistant) and SM-DP+ server roles that let a user activate a plan by scanning a QR code. The specification is what makes carrier switching and multi-profile use possible on modern phones, watches, and tablets.
